Before Duquesne, Kareem was highly regarded as one of the best players to come out of the state of Michigan. At the age of 13, he began to attend St. Mary's Preparatory School where he began his high school basketball career. During his career, Kareem led OLSM to two city league championships, and made an impact in every single game he played in.

During his senior year, Kareem led OLSM to a 20-5 record while maintaining the ranking of no. 1 team in the state for the third straight year. He finished third in the Player of the Year voting for the state of Michigan, while earning 2022 Associated Press All-State First Team as well as the All-Metro First Team.
Despite all of his success, Kareem was still highly overlooked by most Division 1 programs. At the end of his senior season, Duquesne was one of the few Division 1 schools to offer him a scholarship and the rest is history.
